The new govdex will also meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 requirements for the Australian Government.

Focus groups last year identified the requirements to be delivered in the new govdex. Some of the innovative features and capabilities coming to govdex include:

• Quick add – allows a user add a new post, file, or page, and create a new task or event using a single dynamic box on the community home page
• Linked Events and Tasks – plan your projects milestones
• Drag and Drop file attachments for quick and easy uploading
• Subscription – subscribe to a discussion forum
• Simple navigation – more ways to navigate to and within a community
• Dynamic activity feeds – your Dashboard will keep up to date with your colleagues and community progress

What does this mean for me?

The new govdex will bring faster performance, greater levels of accessibility, improved document management capability, a higher degree of networking within communities, and better user customisation.

The new govdex will continue to provide all of the essentials such as a secure, fast and accessible collaboration tool that allows users to keep track of projects, tasks, and issues in an easy-to-use approach.

When will the new govdex arrive?

It is expected that the new govdex site will go live in Q3 2012. The current govdex will be decommissioned upon launch of the new govdex. Stay tuned for more updates!

How will this affect my account?

If you a govdex user, you do not have to do anything. Your govdex account will be automatically transferred to the new govdex. You will be able to use the same username and password.

How will this affect my community?

If you are part of a govdex community, or a community owner, you need not worry, as all communities will be migrated to the new govdex automatically. Community content will be migrated and displayed appropriately. Permissions and restrictions for pages and documents will remain in force and all communities will continue as private and opt-in.

I would like to get involved!

Govdex redevelopment operates on a simple principle – build a system for users, by users. Govdex is seeking feedback from its users on the design features of the new govdex.

We also conduct regular training sessions.  To book for training simply visit our booking page, enter your details and you’re done. If you have to pull out of training you can  do that too, allowing others to attend.

Scheduled Training Sessions

We run fortnightly training sessions at the Department of Finance and Deregulation in Parkes, ACT.
The sessions run for 2 hours, 10am-12pm, and you can check availability and book a spot here.

On-Location Training Sessions

Pending the release of the new govdex we will be reviewing training requirements, as such we will not be offering On-Location Training in the immediate future.

Govdex is certified to the level of In-Confidence. This means that you’re able to store Unclassified or In-Confidence documents in your community on govdex.

Who can access my community?

Only the people you invite. Access to a community on govdex is by invitation only, but you can invite anyone in the world to have access to your community.

Administrators and site owner are responsible for creating, backing up and controlling access to community content. The Department of Finance and Deregulation will make sure that the system is running, backed-up and protected.

Essentially govdex allows you to share documents in, between and outside of agencies. You can also create pages, calendars, forums and issue/task trackers.

Important: Govdex Administrators cannot grant users access to communities or groups.  All user account management is controlled by Community Administrators.

I need access to a particular group, project or community

How to get access: You’ll need to talk to the person who informed you of the community. This person’s likely to be the community administrator and will be able to give you access directly.  If you were informed of the community by a colleague who has access they will be able to reference the communities contacts page which should contain the administrators contact details.

Someone told me about documents on govdex that I need access to

How to get access: You’ll need to talk to the person who has told you about the documents. They will be able to provide you with  contact information for the community administrator who will be able to give you access.

I want to see what content or communities are on govdex

How to get access: Due to the existing security arrangements communities are not publicly visible. We are working on a new feature which will let you browse communities which have published their contact details. We do not currently have a release date on this new feature.

I’ve heard of govdex, and want to see what it’s like

How to get access: We are happy to create communities for users to experience the features of govdex.  Please use the community application form on the front page of govdex to create a community.

I have an account, but I need to reset my password or I forgot my username

How to get access: Use the Account reset feature of govdex. Once you receive the reset email (which contains your username), and change your password, you’ll have access to your communities straight away!

I have an account, but my email address has changed

How to get access: Information on how to change your email address can be found on the How to change your email address page.

I’m not sure if I have an account

How to get access: Use the Account reset feature of govdex. If you don’t receive an email, you probably don’t have an account. Contact the community that you would like access to to have a new account created for you.

While Wiki Markup may be intimidating at first, its flexibility and features allow you more control over the resulting page contents. We’ll show you how to make some basic use of wiki markup here.

Bullets and Numbered Lists

Bullets are created by using the “*” character followed by a space.  A numbered list is created by using the “#” character followed by a space.

It is possible to use these characters to nest indented bullet points and numbers.  For example:

Creating Links

Linking your pages together helps users to navigate around the community to other material and resources of interest.

There are 2 types of links: Internal and External.
Use an Internal link to link to other pages within your community.
Use an External link to link to other web sites (outside of GovDex).

An alias can be put before any link to give the link a more user friendly name.

Create an Internal Link

Click on Edit ->Edit this page …
Enter the page name in square brackets; For example:

This creates a link to the page named “Training Page”, and displays “Govdex Training Page” on-screen.
This page name can either be an existing page within your community or a new page. If it is a new page, you will be prompted to create the page when you click on the link.

To Create an External link

Click on Edit – Edit this page …
Enter in the URL in square brackets

Remember to include the full URL (the *http://www.*)

Creating Tables

Tables allow you to organise content in rows and columns, with a header row if required. To make a table with a heading, use double bars for a table heading row. Note that each table-row has to be defined on a single line.

Headings

This section shows you the different types of headings available in Wiki mark-up language.
To create a header, place “hn. ” at the start of the line (where n can be a number from 1-6).
